Kabir Das was just 12 years old when he won the hearts of millions with his debut album on YouTube. He started performing live at the age of 14, and later released his first single called “Pinni.” It wasn’t long before Kabir Das became one of the most celebrated singer-songwriters in India. He won the BBC World Music Award for Best English Song in 2014.

On March 15, 2015 he released his second album called “Kabir.” In November 2015, Kabir registered a new record in India with his six-record deal with Universal Music. The album will be released on October 28, 2016.

(NOTE: He is not related to the late English singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt.) As a child, Peter attended various schools in England and France before he returned to London to attend boarding school at Uppingham School. It was there that he first read Arnold Bennett’s novel “The Old Wives Tale.”

At age 16 he went to France and enrolled in the Sorbonne. He graduated at age 20 with a degree in French literature, but he never received his diploma as he had been expelled from the university for being outspoken about the progression towards fascism.

The young Peter Sarstedt moved to New York City and began a career in journalism for The New York Herald Tribune and The New York Post. He soon became a columnist for the newspaper. In February of 1943 he married Joan (Sandra) Swafford, an actress and singer—they would have a daughter, Patricia, in 1951. In 1946 he became the first American to record a French language song, “La Vie en Rose,” with his friend Edith Piaf.
